本州、四国、九州、伊豆諸島及び琉球列島（沖縄島）に分布する。アズマネザサやメダケなどのタケ類に生息し、ススキから得られることもある。食性は不明だが、捕食性の可能性がある。Bamboosiella属に近縁で、雌雄共に前腿節の内側に歯状突起を持つことで区別できる。温帯域の個体群は雌雄ともに脚を含め体は一様に暗褐色だが、沖縄島産のオスは胸部、腹部前方及び脚は乳白色。

This species is distributed across Honshu, Shikoku, Kyushu, the Izu Islands and the Ryukyu Islands (Okinawa Is.). It inhabits bamboo species such as Pleioblastus chino and P. Simonii, and is sometimes obtained from Miscanthus sinensis. Its feeding habits are unknown, but it may be predatory. It is closely related to the genus Bamboosiella and can be distinguished by the presence of tooth-like projections on the inner margin of the fore femur in both sexes. Both females and males from the temperate region have uniformly dark brown bodies and legs, though males from the Okinawa Is. have the thorax, abdomenal segments I-V and legs creamy yellow.
